Please help me choose my cover colours!

I can’t sleep, or eat, or even think about anything else!

I’m terribly confused, and I need your help.

I’m formatting my ebook into a paperback using the cover creator in CreateSpace, and I can’t decide on the colours.

The covers are in the same order as the questions.

Any other comments, suggestions, and advice will be very well received.

Thanks. Hope to hear from you soon!

The Poll will be open for 24 hours, then I’ll have to make a decisión, with your help.

  1. I like the darker sort of gray on the bottom because it sort of brings to mind my feelings when i reread Jane Eyre a couple of months ago. Mysterious and a little sad. I was reading it throughout three days of thunderstorms in a cabin in the mountains in front of a well lit stone fireplace. It was perfect.

    1. Sounds like a wonderful way to read Jane Eyre!
Mine is very much an autumn novel… Thanks for commenting. A lot of people prefer the darker one… I liked the green, but it seems I’m the only one!

      1. To me, Green represents new life. In that regard, if you are giving vibrancy to an otherwise gloomy sort of story I would say go with it. It is one of my favorite stories of all times. I think the grayness speaks to the struggles and sorrow of her life.

  2. Hey luccia, I’m almost at the middle of your book right now…n might I add that I am so hooked that I can hardly put off my laptop… I have voted for dark grey because I think its somehow matching to the things that are happening to Jane right now in your book…maybe you can plan for more vibrant colors for the next installments as Jane discovers herself in newer ways 🙂

  3. I quite liked light Grey as I thought dark was to gloomy., but like you with green looks like I’m the only one. For some reason the greens didn’t appeal to my eye, but i couldn’t tell you why. Good luck.

  4. Hi Luccia. Well, I talked to my wife am we concluded (after some debate):
    1. the dark green screamed Virago press and I’m not sure if that is what you are aiming at; it also highlighted the bottom wording about this being a sequel rather than the others (which means the title and your name (especially your name – please make this bigger or bolder or something – it is YOUR book and yet your name is the smallest bit of print) seem lost somehow.
    2. Light green just doesn’t feel right – it clashes with the man picture
    3. Light grey is ok – it is the best compliment to the picture of all four
    4. Dark grey – as others have said it creates a mood, something sinister and threatening hanging over the heroine. If that is the aim then go with this; if not then I’d go light grey whereas Mrs L would go dark grey still.

PS ignore if this is all wrong for you of course…

    1. I’m thinking of removing the sequel bit and writing instead: part one of the eyre hall trilogy. You’re right, of course, I need to move away from J.E. and make my own name (frightening thought!).
I used to like green, but now I think I prefer the dark grey like Mrs L!
Thanks so much for taking the time to discuss and share your thoughts. I really appreciate it 🙂

  5. Interesting way to get public input!! I went with the lighter gray because it blended more easily with the blue on the cover. But I’m a sucker for blue! A good cover is important – grabs the eye and the interest!

  6. I’ve gone for the green, but suspect there might be an order effect in this poll.
That aside, isn’t it fun hosting these polls. I’ve just figured how to do it and hoping people will vote on the flash fiction on my blog this week

  8. I chose the lighter green because I thought it would draw more attention. I think it has the class of old. Doesn’t give off a depressing vibe, and invites one to look at it. But then that’s just my opinion.

    1. Thanks Cielo! You must know that cielo is heaven in Spanish. When someone is wonderful and kind, Spanish people say, ‘eres un cielo’ loosely translated ‘you are like heaven’. Like you! Thanks 🙂

      1. Well, it’s the name you are known by, so it’s real for us! I also use a pen name, but it’s part of me. It’s an anagram of my real name. 🙂

  9. Love this discussion!
Luccia your name is gray aka grey. You are creating your brand (whether you know it on not)
The last is the more ethereal. Which grey speaks to you and how you want others to remember you by?
