99-Word Flash Fiction Challenge
April 22, 2015 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes a vice. It can be part of a character or a part of the story. The vice can be the focus or it can be subtle. Think of ways to use a vice (or multiples, if you are so daring) to create a compelling flash fiction.
Respond by April 28, 2015 to be included in the weekly compilation. All writers are welcome! Check out the other stories here.

Not Quite an Affair
‘Where’s lunch?’
‘In the fridge.’
‘Again, dad?’
‘Afraid so.’
‘Don’t you care?’
‘Of course I care, but what can I do?’
‘Talk to mum.’
‘I’ve tried.’
‘We’re not a family any more, just three people who live in the same house.’
‘It’s hard to reach her.’
‘Doesn’t she love us anymore?’
‘Not like she used to.’
‘Why doesn’t she want to talk to us?’
‘She’s busy.’
‘It’s worse than an affair.’
‘God, no! That would be much worse.’
‘Not for me! I swear I’m going to throw her kindle out the window.’
‘She’ll kill you if you do that.’

You all know how much I love reading, even more than writing, even more than speaking, or walking, or talking…
Is it a vice? It might be…
Is this autobiographical? It might be…
Why live with only the people around you when you can live with so many more…
I understand perfectly well.

This is a great flash! And a great vice to have and I have comfortable sat in silence among my family as we all had noses in our books. But they expected meals and I’d be the one to have to break away…sigh…A fun take on the prompt!

Oh gosh, if I had a kindle, this would probably be about me. Fortunately, I only have blogging, but I try not to neglect their nutritional needs. 😉 I loved this flash.

My kids are grown up and have left home, except when they visit with my grandchildren which is often, and I try to put my tablet away for a while! I never had a kindle when they were children, so many years ago…. I wonder what might have happened….. 😂

ah but I’m reflecting the way my family treat me like some sort of iLeper.. it was far too close to home.

Definitely an affair. I know this was meant to be humorous (and it really is…great ending) but I agree with others that it’s also true. A very real vice. Along with blogging and social media. Computers, iPads, tablets, smartphones… It’s the new crack.

I agree. Anything taken too far becomes a vice and a problem. But father and daughter might have been talking mum for granted!

Fair enough. I will NOT argue that one.
