Blog Party 28th August
It’s past midnight in Europe, where I live! It’s officially the launch day of my second novel, Twelfth Night at Eyre Hall, and to celebrate, I’ll be hosting my first Blog Party with the help and encouragement of Suzie Speaks!  Thank you Suzie! I would never have been so daring without your example and support!

I have never hosted a Blog Party before. I have looked at at a few, like Suzie’s, and searched on the Internet and I’ve discovered it’s basically a spot for bloggers to share their work on the same day and check out the work of others.

So, visitors post links from their own blogs and interact with other visitors by checking and commenting on their blogs, too. It all takes place on the hosting blog, in this case Rereading Jane Eyre.

The result is that visitors reach an audience they might not normally reach, so traffic and interaction should increase in all participating blogs.

As I’m new to this, I’ll be following Suzie’s layout and rules.

I’ve decided to add a theme: Books

1. Choose your favourite post related to books. It could be a review, a reflection on writing, your experiences as a reader, any aspect of publishing. Anything related to books!

2. You may have more than one favourite post, so you can post up to three different links, but for maximum impact I would suggest that you wait a little while in between posting them rather than in one go.

3. Introduce yourself and your blog briefly and paste the link to your post in the comment section of this post.

4. Enjoy! Relax, pull up a chair, meet other bloggers! Find new blogs, comment on their posts, follow, reblog and share. Let them know that you met them here! This is a really useful way of discovering new blogs, particularly if you have only just joined the blogging world and when I have participated in similar things I have really enjoyed them!

You don’t have to follow me to participate, you don’t have to be an established blogger – you could have written just a single post – and feel free to invite your friends! You don’t have to be a writer. I will leave it open all weekend, so if you can’t join in now you can come back at any time over the next few days!

    1. Great post! I’d read it first time on your blog. The first thing I ever read of my own choice was probably a Princess Tina, comic 🙂 The best way into writing is definitely by reading, and I dare add the Victorians, who didn’t invent, but did launch, the modern novel, are the greatest inspiration for most writers, certainly for me. I still have to read The Warden. It’s something I’m looking forward to.

    1. That was a fascinating post. I knew there was a great deal of erotic literature in the Victorian period, but I had no idea it all started with Mr. Curll over a century earlier. I’ve just subscribed. Although I’m more interested in the 19th century, I also find the 18th century inspiring. Looking forward to reading more of your posts 🙂

  7. Good morning bloggers! I’m Luccia Gray, today’s party host. I’ve been bloggng about Jane Eyre, the Victorians, and books in general, for almost two years. I love the blogging universe, because I’ve met many new blogging friends (many, but not, all are blogging sisters!) and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you, and meeting new friends, today 🙂 I’m writing a three-part sequel to Jane Eyre. Today is the launch day for book two, and I’m very excited!

    1. I love your choices of great English authors, Suzie. I love Benjamin Zephaniah, and was surprised to see him on your list, which started off very traditionally! For several years, I taught a course on History of the English Langage, and Cultural Aspects, and I used to start with his poem, ‘The British’ for a class debate. He’s a star!

    1. Thank you, Ellen. I loved your post. I agree that writers are very insecure (have you joined the Insecure Writers Support Group Blog?) There’s some peace in knowing that most of us feel the same insecurities. That’s why sharing is so important.
      I love your last lines, which I’d like to share here:
      ‘Write because you must. Write because you love it. Write because it gives you strength. If you reach only yourself, you’ve done something of value. If you write well and purely and reach other people, you can give them strength. Or make them laugh. Or let them see the world in a new way. If you reach one other person, that’s a gift to you both. Take joy in it. For its own sake.’

        I don’t know about the Insecure Writers Support Group Blog. I’d love a link. I’ve reached a point where I can send out fiction without turning a hair. I’ve been accepted often enough to feel (relatively) secure and I’ve been turned down (by the best, thank you) often enough that it doesn’t bother me (much). But I’ve recently started sending out more nonfiction and have reverted to the default setting of insecurity. It’s new territory for me, and I don’t know the secret handshakes.

    1. Hi Sacha! Thanks for dropping by. I’m afraid I haven’t read any of the books you mention. I’ll have to put them on my far-too-long TBR list. As you said they’re in no particular order, if you had to suggest one or two for me to read, which would they be?

    1. Great! I hope you’re enjoying. Book 1 ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but book 2 moves the story on more optimistically, although there’s a lot to unravel in book 3.

    My blog started off being just about writing, but has expanded to cover lots of different things. Here is a link about a picture my daughter drew for me, several months before my first book was published. Strangely enough, I did end up having an author event quite similar looking to her drawing – though I received chocolates rather than flowers and the pile of money was significantly smaller! LOL

    1. Great post, Hugh. As I interpret your message, cliff-hangers and open ended stories need to be told, so the reader interacts with the writing.
      I agree that the reader needs to be able to ‘fill in’ some of the spaces, to imagine and recreate their own story, which might not be the writer’s story/intention.
      Actually, something like that is what I’ve done with Jane Eyre. I’ve reinterpreted, reread and rewritten the story, using the spaces Bronte left. There are always spaces… and there’s always room to recreate…

      1. Sounds very exciting Luccia. I love to hear back from my readers with what they think may have happened. It can put a totally new perspective on the story. Sometimes I wish I’d thought of the ending they thought had happened.

    1. Thank you, Amaya for your kind words. Love is indeed variable. Most people write about love, or include love in their novels, but there are so many different aspects and approaches… I’m sure we’ll never stop reading and writing about Love 🙂 Thank you for sharing your review with us.
