#FridayFictioneers ‘The Wedding Band’ #Flashfiction #100Words

I’m thrilled it’s Friday once again. Time for a new flash fiction episode for Friday Fictioneers featuring Alice and her best friend, Billy.

Alice’s dad, Kevin, is still missing, and Alice will do anything to find him. Billy will do anything to help Alice, so together they’re a great team!

Thank you Rochelle at Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple for this week’s prompt for hosting this fabulous weekly flash fiction challenge. Thank you Sandra Crook for this week’s photo prompt.

The Wedding Band

Alice sat on the grass, eyes closed, her back and head leaning against the tree trunk.

‘What’s up?’ asked Billy.

‘I’m looking for evidence.’

Billy looked over towards the abandonned cottage. ‘Shouldn’t we be looking inside?’

‘The tree’s our only witness,’ Alice whispered.

Billy crouched beside her, facing the bark.

‘Can you feel it too?’ She asked.

Billy pushed his fingers inside a knot hole.

‘I know my father was here.’

‘He was,’ said Billy. ‘Look.’ He pulled out Kevin’s singular, encrusted wedding band. ‘Now we’re going to the police.’

‘No,’ said Alice. ‘We keep searching until we find him before the others do.’

All my ‘Alice’ flash fiction stories, written for the Friday Fictioneers Challenge, can be read as standalones, but if you’d like to read previous stories of Alice’s adventures, here they are!

    1. Kevin’s disappeared mysteriously and seems to be in the hands of organised crime. The reason hasn’t been disclosed yet. He’s trying to keep his family out of danger and that means not alerting the police, but Alice insists on looking for him… I’m hoping the prompts will help me sort it out!

      1. Thanks for your comment. I might change the ending now. Although it’s an ongoing story, my aim is to make each episode stand on it’s own, something I obviously haven’t achieved this week 😦

    1. Thank you, John Mark. It’s been a long time. So glad you visited my blog. I’m having fun with Alice. At some point I need to sort out my Alice stories chronologically, for now I’m enjoying exploring her character.

  1. I think it works. A lot of FF leave us dangling (mine do a lot) but that’s how life works. There is always another chapter. I think this is ,my first Alice story and I really enjoyed it

      1. What a funny coincidence that I just ran across your blog, given its name, because I just finished reading “The Eyre Affair” by Jasper Fforde, so I’ve had Jane Eyre on the brain!
