Make them Dance
Life is far too short,
Make sure to say, ‘I 💖 you’,
While you bake the cake,
Plan the trip, read the book and
Play the tune that makes them dance.

The Girl in Blue
‘Follow me’, she says,
She’s the girl in blue, the girl
Who’s in love with you.
‘I’d go to Land’s End’, you say,
As you watch her run away.

Horse watches walkers,
Standing under shady tree,
Weary of strangers
Who run, shout and take photos,
Disrupting silent Sunday.

Unspeakable crimes,
Fragments of memory lost
Just before I died.

Never give up, no,
Get up when you hit the ground,
Find your way forward,
Never let them keep you down.
Focus like eagle, fly high.

I was feeling a little low today, so just in case any of you are in need of some motivation, too, I hope my Tanka, inspired by Sia’s song, will cheer you up and remind us all to get up and keep working hard and aiming for our dreams, in spite of setbacks.

Dr. Smith pushed her glasses to the top of her nose. ‘Can you describe how you’re feeling, Sarah?’
‘I’m lying down in the middle of the street, in my school uniform, while passersby throw stones over my motionless body.’
Dr. Smith nodded as if she understood. ‘Close your eyes, Sarah. Imagine you’re a bystander watching. What can you see?’
‘A girl buried under a huge, grey stone pyramid.’
She smiled. ‘Look again, Sarah. Perhaps you’re not under the pyramid, you’re inside it and there’s a way out.’
‘Like a secret door?’
Dr. Smith nodded. ‘Exactly.’
‘Where?’
Dr. Smith leaned towards her patient. ‘I’m here to help you find it.’

This post was written as part of the Word of the day Challenge. The word for today is Fog. My entry is almost, but not quite, a Tanka, poetic licence…

She became a tree,
Because she preferred the woods
To concrete and glass.
Her feet were her roots, her hair
A tangled mesh of branches,
Dancing in the fog.
