#SundayWalks ‘7 things I forgot in 2020’

I forgot to be impatient, because life isn’t a race, it’s a journey to be savoured.

I forgot to complain when I switched off my morning alarm, because every day is a unique gift to treasure.

I forgot to worry about setbacks, because they show me a lesson I need to learn.

I forgot to feel guilt about my choices because they are a result of my free will, and they have brought me to where I am.

I forgot to feel fear, because, ‘only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.’ Dorothy Thompson.

I forgot to feel bored because this world is the most fascinating place in the universe and I am lucky enough to experience living here.

I forgot to feel entitled, because this world owes me nothing I don’t deserve. Instead, I learnt to say thank you for every breath I take, everything I see and feel, and everyone in my life, including you, dear blogging friends and visitors.

And finally, I forgot to worry about everything I had lost over the years and remembered everything I had.

Tell me, what did you forget in 2020?

#SundayWalks ‘Even in Winter’ #Haiku #HappyNewYear

Even in winter,

Yellow daisies shine like gold,

Smiling at frail sun.

Even in winter,

Tired leaves fall from dry branches,

Shining on pavement.

Even in winter,

Vibrant green-leaved bushes hide

Red flowers gleaming.

Even in winter,

Bare trees stretch, because they know

Spring’s not far away.

Photos taken this weekend walking around Fuengirola, Malaga.

Happy winter walking!

Who Misses Shady Trees in November?

Passers by sit and chat or rest

On those empty benches,

In summer,

Under the shade of sturdy trees.

Not now.

Today they’re walking on puddles

Under a cloudy sky,

In autumn,

Or sitting indoors, by the fire,

Waiting,

For the sun to shine for a while,

as it might tomorrow,

Or later.

No one misses the shady trees,

At all.

I took both photos last week in Cantabria, Spain.

#PhotoOfMyLife Day2 Cantabria #Spain #Tanka

Ice cold mountain stoops,

Peering down at autumn leaves,

Waiting patiently,

For spring to dress them once more

With flowers and leaves galore.

The rules for this Twitter Challenge: no people, no explanations and challenge one new person every day. I was challenged by @GeorgiaRoseBook check out her blog.

I challenge @BookClubMom check out her book blog.

As I already told you, I’m terrible at following rules, so not only have I written a tanka, now I’m going to tell you all about the picture!

I was here, for a freezing week, a few days ago. It’s a cold, but beautiful part of the north of Spain, where my mother and her family originally came from. There is a skiing resort nearby (see photo below), but I just visit for the scenery!

#FridayFictioneers ‘Frosty Quarrel’ #FlashFiction #100words

Time again for a new episode of Friday Fictioneers featuring our indomitable heroine, Alice Pendragon, who will discover the downside of falling in love…

Thank you Rochelle at Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple for this week’s prompt for hosting this fabulous weekly flash fiction challenge. Thank you © Dale Rogerson for this week’s icy photo prompt.

Frosty Quarrel

“You asked me how I feel, mum?” Alice said walking over to the window and lifting her chin towards the wintry garden.

“Like ice. My heart is crying frozen drops of dew, hanging onto the freezing branches. I’m chilled to the core and dead to the world. I’m paralysed by frost and trapped in a tiny iceberg.”

Alice remembered their argument and sighed. “Billy’s not coming back this time.”

Her mother chuckled. “He left an hour ago.”

Alice shook her head. “You don’t understand, mum.”

Her mother smiled. “Trust me, I do. Call him. He’s feeling like the frozen pool.”
